CBS Dominates Thursdays, But ABC's 'Scandal' Holds

CBS resumed its stronger winning ways on Thursday night, putting more distance between it and its competitors.

CBS earned a Nielsen preliminary 2.7 rating/8 share among 18-49 viewers -- up from a preliminary 2.5/8 a week ago.
Three of its sitcoms posted gains: “Big Bang Theory,” still the dominant leader on Thursday night, grew to a 5.2 rating/17 share, up from a 5.0 rating the week before. “The Millers” climbed to a 3.0/9, up from a 2.7 rating; and “Two and a Half Men” added two-tenths of a rating point, to a 2.7/8.

CBS’ 10 p.m. drama “Elementary” also inched up, one-tenth of a rating point to a 1.7/5. The only comedy -- “The Crazy Ones,” now in its new time period at 9:30 p.m. and new night -- slipped, down over 10% to a 1.7/5.

ABC went a bit south overall for the night -- to a 2.1/6 from a 2.4/7. Its big dramas “Grey’s Anatomy” at 9 p.m. and “Scandal” at 10 p.m. both fell some: “Grey’s” to a 2.6/7 from a 3.1 the week before; “Scandal” at a 2.8/8, down from a high-flying 3.4.

“Scandal,” however, remains the strongest 10 p.m. drama with its 2.8 rating -- over a rating point higher than “Elementary” (1.7/5), and over a point and a half higher than NBC’s “Parenthood” (1.2/4).

Fox’s “American Idol” at 8 p.m., lost a bit more ground week-to-week -- now at a 2.2/7, from a 2.4 rating. With Fox’s “Rake” now at a 0.8/2, Fox for the night rests at a 1.5/4. A week ago, it was at a 1.5/5. “Idol” will be moving to 9 p.m. on Thursday night.

NBC continues to struggle, posting an identical 1.1/3 on Thursday night. Its best numbers came from “Parks and Recreation” at 8:30 p.m., at 1.2/4 and 2.9 million viewers, and “Parenthood,” at 1.2/4 and 3.8 million viewers. Univision was at a 1.1/3 -- the same as the week before.

The CW moved up a bit to a 0.8/3 from a 0.7/2. “Vampire Diaries” rose to a 1.0 rating/3 share from a 0.9 rating the week before, and “Reign” was up to a 0.7/2 from a 0.5 rating
