Titan Lands SEPTA Ad Contract

Transit advertiser Titan is securing its position in the Northeast with a new five-year advertising sales contract extending its previous relationship with the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority, which operates the commuter rail and mass transit network serving the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

The renewed contract has the option for two two-year extensions, and will generate at least $150 million for SEPTA over the full nine-year period.

The deal makes Titan the exclusive ad sales provider for SEPTA, responsible for ad inventory that reaches 24 million passengers per month on the country’s fifth-largest transit system. The SEPTA ad network includes static and digital displays on vehicles and station furniture serving commuter rail, subways, light rail and electric trolleys and buses.

Titan intends to build additional digital displays to reach passengers on station platforms and on board transit vehicles, serving targeted ads alongside information including train arrival schedules, news and weather.

The last few months have seen a spate of activity in the transit ad arena. Last month, CBS Outdoor formally launched its new digital out-of-home network based in New York City Transit subway stations. The new CBS Outdoor “digital underground” network includes 10 large digital dioramas -- each measuring 66 inches high and 38.5 inches wide -- in strategic locations throughout the subway system, including Grand Central, Times Square, Columbus Circle, Bryant Park, Lincoln Center and Herald Square.

In conjunction with the new launch, in March the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which oversees NYCT, joined the Digital Place-based Advertising Association.

In January, JCDecaux signed a seven-year deal to provide ad services at Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport, with the option of a three-year extension. That news came on the heels of JCDecaux’s new eight-year contract to provide interior and exterior advertising and sponsorship services at Boston’s Logan International Airport, signed in December.

Also in January, Clear Channel Outdoor’s Clear Channel Airports division officially launched its new indoor digital media network serving Philadelphia International Airport. Finally, CCO announced its selection by the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System as the new operator and media provider for over 400 bus shelters in the MTS system, with plans to install 100 more over the next five years
