'SNF' Scores For Key NBC Demo

For the third year in a row, NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” was the top regularly scheduled TV series for TV advertisers’ key 18-49 viewer group.

“SNF” took in a Nielsen live program-plus-same day 7.82 rating in the 18-49 demographic (9.924 million 18-49 viewers). In an increasingly rare occurrence for any broadcast or even cable TV show, “SNF” was higher than the year before, which earned 9.91 million 18-49 viewers. It also posted 21.14 million viewers -- slightly more than the previous year.

The first seven placings after “Sunday Night Football” were also NFL-related -- either post-game or pre-game programming from prime-time or late afternoon Sunday NFL activity.

The biggest-earning non-sports TV program series among 18-49 viewers was CBS’ “The Big Bang Theory,” which earned a 4.42 rating, down from a 4.75 a year ago. It won this top spot a year ago as well.

CBS also took the top position for overall viewers, with “NCIS” getting 16.9 million viewers, down from 18.5 million viewers level a year ago. The show’s 18-49 ratings also slipped to a 2.5 from a 3.16.

NBC’s “The Voice” (Monday) garnered second place among the key 18-49 crowd, at a 3.78 -- down from a 4.39 a year ago. The Tuesday edition of "The Voice" was next with a 3.48, compared to 4.0 a year ago.

CBS’ “How I Met Your Mother” was in third place, besting its year-ago results (partly because of its series ending episodes), earning a 3.15 this season compared to a 2.86 a year ago. ABC’s “Modern Family” earned a 3.04 versus a 3.51 a year ago.

The best hour drama among 18-49 viewers was ABC’s “Scandal” at a 2.81 rating, up from a 2.15 the year before. ABC also garnered second place with its long-time drama, “Grey’s Anatomy” with a 2.68, down from a 2.8 the year before.

In terms of the best first-year shows, NBC’s “The Blacklist” rocketed to the best overall results among 18-49 viewers with a 2.67 rating and 9.99 million total overall average viewers. ABC’s “Resurrection” took second place with a 2.52 rating and 9.3 million.
