This New Agency Search App Is Like Tinder For Marketers

Well, here's the greatest thing to have come along since, well, since Tuesday's announcement of the new iPhone. It's a new app called Pitcher. The app lets clients create a short list of up to five agencies, with the options to call directly or send an e-mail inviting them to take part in a review. Pitcher was invented and created by ad agency Woedend! and the agency content in the app is supplied by Amsterdam Ad Blog. Woeland! Creative Director Merien Kunst explains: "The current pitch culture in the Netherlands is not sustainable. Brands are increasingly flirty and agencies need to invest more time and money in smaller projects and shorter relationships. It does not improve the quality of campaigns and ultimately no one benefits. Instead of fighting this, we like to embrace it -- with a nod to the modest pitch fees. We believe that this free app really adds value for marketers." So like one night stands instead of a marriage. OK, I get it.

This is kind of funny. The Sacramento Kings have launched their own ad agency Crown Sports United. Why? Well, Kings President Chris Granger has an answer. He says: "You know, imagine a big soft drink brand. They may want to activate one of their brands with the Kings, they might want to do something completely different with snowboarding given that demographic, and they might want to promote a water brand or energy drink with USA Outdoor Track and Field," He says it will also offer a kind of "market dominance" that isn't available anywhere else. Okay, then.

So there's a Ukraine ad agency called Ebola Communications. No, really. And why did the agency choose such a name? As Ebola Communications CEO Yaroslav Korets explains to Ad Age:  "We took the name of Ebola virus, because it is widely considered to be the most dangerous and spreading rapidly virus in the world. Our idea was successful. Thanks to very fast and efficient projects, our agency quickly strengthened in the Ukrainian Internet marketing. Today, our name is well known among Ukrainian and European advertisers. The range of Ebola's activities has increased over time. In recent years, Ebola has focused on work with advertising agencies as a digital contractor. Ebola Communications' key expertise is web production, including mobile production." Hmm. Makes perfect sense to me.

Oh how it would be nice to work for an ad agency hired by the government. Why? Well, it seems, there isn't much work to do. GMMB, which was paid $389 million to do Obama's advertising for the 2012 campaign, was awarded an open-ended contract valued at $5.7 million for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. The account was awarded in August 2013 but the agency hasn't produced any work since then. CFPB Spokesman Samuel Gilford says about one quarter of the $5.7 million has been spent to date but that "no final advertising products have been produced." Is this another Enfatico
