'Gotham,' 'Scorpion' Score Well In Prime Time

The first official night of the 2014-2015 TV season scored well among key viewers for two new dramas -- Fox’s “Gotham” and CBS’ “Scorpion” -- amid heavy competition.

At 8 p.m. “Gotham” -- running against CBS’ “Big Bang Theory” and NBC’s “The Voice” -- posting a strong Nielsen preliminary 3.2 rating/10 share among 18-49 viewers for its live-plus-same-day metric. Better still, it posted an 11 share of men 18-49 versus a 9 share for women 18-49.

Then at 9 p.m., CBS’ “Scorpion” was also at a strong 3.3/9 -- winning its time period -- virtually even between women and men 18-49 viewers, with a 9 share and an 8 share, respectively.

Two new episodes -- running at 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. -- of “Big Bang Theory” earned a 5.3/17 and a 5.4/15, respectively, the best-performing shows of the night. These shows were down slightly from last year’s Thursday season opening episodes of the show -- a 5.5 and a 6.1 rating among 18-49 viewers.

NBC seems to be dinged a bit on the night: Two hours of “The Voice” from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. earned a 3.9/1, sharply down from its 5.1 rating of a year ago.

But at 10 p.m., NBC's “The Blacklist” continued its strong results with a 3.4/10 -- down slightly from its 3.8 rating series premiere a year ago. Also at 10 p.m., CBS’ season finale of its summer series, “Under the Dome,” was at a 1.8/5. ABC’s new drama, “Forever” was next at a respectable 1.5/4.

Two other returning shows fared well, but down a bit: ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars,” at two hours from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., earned a 2.0/6; and Fox’s “Sleepy Hollow” at 9 p.m., took a 2.0/5.

CW’s new season of “America’s Next Top Model” earned a 0.4/1 and 1.2 million viewers overall -- similar results to last season’s start.

NBC edged CBS for the overall win among 18-49 viewers on Monday with a 3.7/11 to a 3.5/10. Fox was next at a 2.6/7, followed by ABC with a 1.8/5, Univision at a 1.2/3 and CW with a 0.3/1.
