Academy Award-winning producer and Hollywood ledged Brian Grazer took the stage at South By Southwest (SXSW) to bridge the gap between curiosity and creativity. He told a packed room Sunday that Hollywood does not breed ideas, but rather curiosity does.
Feeling mentally unfulfilled after graduating from a Southern California university, he challenged himself to meet one new person from outside the Hollywood industry every two weeks. He started with one of his USC professors, the kind who teach massive classes and never actually meet an eighth of the student who attend.
That led him to trial lawyers, where he realized they use physics and force of words to convince a jury of something that many times isn't valid. The experience gave birth to Liar Liar with Jim Carrey.
What's the point? Much of his success came from stringing together unusual connections and ideas from life and experiences.
