Movie Fans Want 'The Revenant' For Best Picture And Its Star For Best Actor

If fans were voting, “The Revenant” would win the Oscar for Best Picture this year and the film’s star Leonardo DiCaprio would win for Best Actor.

That’s according to marketing technology firm Amobee, which measured the movie-related content that people are viewing, reading, sharing, and interacting with online between Jan. 22 and Feb. 22.

Whether or not members of the Motion Picture Academy -- who do the actual voting -- feel the same way, will be revealed this coming Sunday on ABC’s Oscars telecast.

The analytics firm, which parses over 60 billion digital content engagements across the Web, mobile, social and video per day, studied movie-related engagements to determine which actors, filmmakers, and movies are the fan favorites going into Sunday’s broadcast.

The film “Spotlight” is the second-most popular film in the Oscar race this year and “Mad Max: Fury Road” is number three per the Amobee rundown.

The closest race in the Amobee analysis is in the Best Actress category. Brie Larson for “Room” barely edged out Jennifer Lawrence for “Joy.”

In the Best Director category, the audience is hoping for a repeat appearance from last year’s winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu, who won for “Birdman,” and who is in the running this year for "The Revenant."
