Stre.am Releases Live Video Tech For Businesses

Stre.am, a mobile live streaming app, announced the release of a B2B product that will enable content creators, digital networks and media publishers to set up live video businesses on their properties.

The company built the entire tech stack in-house, says Will Jamieson, CMO at Stre.am. Jamieson says his company had explored other options for video distribution but that they would have been difficult to maintain at scale, and dependent on third parties. “By [building it in-house] it gave us unlimited flexibility,” he says, “Owning the infrastructure makes it possible to move quickly with a small team.”

Most businesses are utilizing the tech through a live video player, Jamieson says.

Initial partners include the Volvo Car Open, a women’s tennis tournament, Vainglory, a multiplayer mobile game, and Arsenic Magazine, a Snapchat title that branched into its own content platform.

Stre.am boasts sub two-second latency on their streams, and can stream from very nearly every device on the market, including Go-Pro’s and drones.

Features of the service include the ability to upload other video content to the player when no live content is featured; delete, rearrange and curate uploaded content in the player; and no dependencies on third party servers.

Live video has seen a big push from major players in the space, including Facebook and Twitter. Publishers see it as an organic means of reaching a devoted following and platforms see it as a means to set up highly trafficked events.
