Oscar winner Christoph Waltz does a comedic turn in a spot for
Samsung’s new smart phone Galaxy Note 7 which will debut tonight during NBC’s coverage of the Rio 2016 Olympics Opening Ceremony.
The phone was unveiled earlier in the week and the spot, from Wieden + Kennedy, has Waltz taking a whimsical look at ambitious Americans while highlighting the phone’s features.
The spot opens with the actor at home holding one of the new phones while proclaiming, “Americans…I don’t understand you. You’re always working all the time, busy, busy, busy. Now you have this Galaxy Note 7 so you can do even more. Really?”
In subsequent scenes Waltz morphs into multiple characters including a multitasking mom, and a man who continues his worker-bee habits (using the Galaxy Note 7 of course) while on vacation. Then in rapid succession he becomes a world-record-breaking track star, car salesman of the year, revolutionary soldier, Abraham Lincoln and an astronaut.

Finally, he and his family are in their back yard, house in the background draped in multiple patriotic flags and banners as Waltz pronounces the new phone “perfect for busy Americans like us.”
Commenting on the new ad, Samsung Chief Creative Officer Jesse Coulter stated that “these days, Americans are doing more than ever. The foundation of our country is ambition—dreaming big and building things greater than ourselves—and this ambition comes in all forms. . . Samsung designed the Galaxy Note7 with this intrepid spirit in mind. And now, we’re launching a multi-faceted creative campaign to demonstrate exactly how the Note7 helps the ambitious, the aspirational, and the tireless think big and get more done.”
