'Run For Something' Initiative Encourages Millennials To Run For Office

Former Obama and Clinton staffers announced on Friday the launch of www.runforsomething.net. The goal of the initiative is to motivate citizens 35 or younger to run for elected office.

“After the 2016 election, we saw the need to build a bench of candidates from the town level all the way to the presidential level that support progressive values,” stated Amanda Litman co-founder of Run for Something, who worked for Hillary for America and Ross Morales Rocketto from For Our Future,

She calls the Run For Something movement "unabashedly progressive." It plans to recruit, train and support millennial candidates for office. "Be it on their town council, city council, mayor or other elected office,” she added.

The initiative was propelled by the recent election.

Democrats are in a weak position in government. They are the minority in both houses of Congress and in the last eight years, lost more than 900 seats in state legislatures. The party holds just 15 of 50 governor posts.

"Building a young diverse progressive bench is critical to the fight ahead -- Run for Something is exactly the kind of organization we need to help bolster our movement and bring new people into the fold," stated John Carson, former executive director Obama for America.
