SendGrid Acquires Bizzy, Takes Aim At MailChimp

Cloud-based email delivery platform SendGrid announced the acquisition of Bizzy, an email marketing startup, on Tuesday for an undisclosed price.

Bizzy’s marketing automation toolkit will now propel SendGrid’s Marketing Campaigns product roadmap, transforming a cloud-based email delivery company into an all-in-one email marketing organization.

Launched last year, Marketing Campaigns is SendGrid’s email marketing solution.  The company claims it has already delivered more than 19 million email campaigns and now serves more than 5,000 paying customers.

Bizzy’s email capabilities are built around an algorithm that segments customers based in past purchase behaviors, determining when a subscriber should receive and email and what type of message should be sent.

Based in San Francisco, Bizzy is an email marketing automation startup developed for small to medium-sized ecommerce businesses. The company delivers a suite of email marketing tools including segmentation, automation, and campaign analytics. Bizzy also provides an email template that prioritizes reading efficiency on a mobile device with headlines, images and a clickable call-to-action.

Bizzy claims to boost email engagement by twelve times while sending customers 60% fewer messages.

The team, including co-founders Jennifer Kessler and Chiara McPhee, will remain on board at SendGrid.

SendGrid is a cloud-based customer communications and email deliverability platform, sending more than 35 billion emails each month for customers such as HubSpot, Spotify, Airbnb and Uber.
