PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — Acura is giving the brand’s Instagram followers a special sneak peek of the reveal of the ARX-05 Daytona Prototype International Race Car at The Quail during Monterey Automotive Week.
The automaker has been sharing a clip snippet of the reveal video every hour on Instagram stories, leading up to this morning’s official reveal at 11:30 am PT (Aug. 18) featuring Art St. Cyr, president of Honda Performance Development, and Roger Penske of Team Penske.
The bite-sized pieces of content will stitch the stories together. Fans can follow along and tap and get Easter egg clues leading up to the ARX-05’s official reveal. The goal is to make sure Acura stories remain at the top of people’s busy storylines, says a spokesperson.
The brand will also create a tile mosaic of teaser images within Instagram as well that build to reveal the ARX-05.The final reveal will live on Acura’s Instagram, Facebook and YouTube channels when it is released today.
The ARX-05 marks Acura’s return to prototype racing. Along with legendary partner Team Penske, Acura will have two ARX-05 race cars in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, beginning with the Rolex 24 at Daytona in January.
Other vehicles on display included the 2017 NSX supercar, Road and Track's 2017 Performance Car of the Year, its racing counterpart, the NSX GT3, along with the 2017 MDX Sport Hybrid SUV, and the redesigned 2018 TLX A-Spec sport sedan.
Acura kicked off the week's activities as the exclusive automotive sponsor of the Carmel-By-The Sea Concours on the Avenue on Aug. 15. In its fifth year of participation in the event, Acura showcased its lineup of performance luxury vehicles in Carmel, led by the public debut of the 2018 Acura RLX Sport Hybrid.
Guests of The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering will have the opportunity to experience the vehicle behind the wheel of the 2017 NSX via a ride-and-drive being held at The Quail Lodge & Golf Club.
The 377-horsepower Acura RLX Sport Hybrid is the most-sophisticated and best-performing Acura sedan ever, according to the automaker. Sharing NSX supercar technology, the new 2018 Acura RLX will go on sale in November.
At this year's Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, Aug. 17 - 20, Acura will showcase the brand's racing heritage with a display of historic race cars in the Acura garage as well as the new Acura ARX-05 prototype race car on Aug. 19.
Finally, at the Monterey Automotive Week event, the Acura ARX-05 prototype race car will be featured on the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance concept lawn. In addition, Dave Marek, Acura global creative director, will serve as a guest judge at this year's program.
