'Walking Dead' Gets Sickly 8th Season Start, AMC's Stock Dips

AMC Networks stock was down more than 3% in Tuesday trading two days after its big franchise hit, “The Walking Dead,” tumbled in its eighth-season premiere.

The season debut episode of “Dead” was down 43% in total Nielsen average viewers to 11.4 million viewers from 17 million a year ago, according to live program-plus-same day time-shifted viewing data released by Nielsen on Tuesday.

In additionally, “Dead” recorded 6.5 million of adults 18-49 -- a 5.0 Nielsen rating -- down 10.7 million the year before. “Dead” remains the highest-rated entertainment series on TV among 18-49 viewers.

In mid-day Tuesday trading, AMC Networks stock was down 3.6% to $52.34.

In terms of total viewers, “Dead” came in at fifth place in overall Nielsen viewership for all TV shows -- NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” (19.2 million); CBS’ “60 Minutes” (14.6 million); and NBC’s “SNL Pre-Show” (13.8 million).

Still, “Dead” bested all broadcast/cable network entertainment series ahead of CBS’ “NCIS: Los Angeles” (8.2 million); CBS’ “Wisdom of the Crowd” (7.7 million); and CBS’ “Madam Secretary” (6.4 million).
