YouTube Bringing App To TV-Connected Devices

YouTube is rolling out a new app for its YouTube TV over-the-top video service designed specifically for TV-connected devices.

The versions launching this week are for devices powered by Android TV, including TV sets with the software built in, as well as Microsoft Xbox One devices.

The company says it will be rolling out YouTube TV apps for Apple TV and TVs from LG, Sony and Samsung over the next few weeks.

Up until now, YouTube TV has been available on smartphones, tablets and computers, as well as on TV sets through Chromecast. The new apps could significantly expand its presence on TV sets.

The service features a “skinny” bundle of broadcast and cable channels at a more accessible price point than larger, traditional pay-TV bundles. YouTube TV has been a presenting sponsor of this year’s MLB World Series, highlighting the fact that subscribers can watch World Series games through the service.

The new apps will include a "live guide” letting users see what is on. Viewers can also pick up on-demand shows from where they left off on their mobile devices, among other features.
