Altice, Comcast And Charter Form New Regional NY Ad Sales Unit

Three major cable operators are forming a new regional cable advertising unit in New York market.

Altice USA, Charter Communications and Comcast Cable have reached a preliminary agreement to form a new cable advertising selling operation for the New York market to reach more than 6.2 million households -- the largest advertising market in the country.

The companies say the new unit, called Interconnect, expects to launch in early second-quarter 2018. It will provide an “enhanced way to strategically reach audiences across TV and digital platforms."

Interconnect will offer advanced advertising products and solutions, including placement of commercial ads on up to 85 cable networks, as well as offering “highly-optimized linear and digital planning tools and campaign measurement.”

Interconnect will manage market-wide -- but non-local -- advertising sales for two regional news networks: Altice USA’ News 12 Networks and Charter’s Spectrum News NY1.

Previously, for the cable industry, the New York market’s regional cable advertising efforts were done through New York Interconnect, which currently includes Comcast and Altice USA.

Time Warner Cable, which Charter purchased last year, left the entity in 1998.
