Amazon Completes Acquisition Of Video Doorbell Maker Ring

Amazon has finalized its acquisition of Ring, maker of the video doorbell.

The smart doorbell allows an owner to see who is at the door and respond, even if at another location.

The relationship between Amazon and Ring began in 2016 through the Alexa fund, Amazon’s investment division focused on supporting companies that develop voice-related features. Ring developed an Amazon Alexa skill for customers to use voice to view camera feeds directly from Echo Show and Fire TV.

“Our mission to reduce crime in neighborhoods has been at the core of everything we do at Ring,” stated Jamie Siminoff, CEO and chief inventor of Ring in the announcement. “Together with Amazon, we will accelerate our mission dramatically by connecting more neighbors globally and making our security devices and systems more affordable and accessible. The entire Ring team is excited to continue working hard to create products and services that bring real benefits to people’s lives and build safer communities for all our neighbors.”

As part of the deal closing, Amazon dropped the price of the Ring Video Doorbell to $99.99.
