The Company Acquires Long-Time Indie Phelps

Los Angeles-based independent agency Phelps has been acquired by The Company a Houston-based collective of specialty marketing firms and a full-service ad agency. Financial terms weren’t disclosed.

The agreement “opens an exciting new chapter for us,” stated Ed Chambliss, who has been CEO of 37-year-old Phelps and shifts to a managing director post at The Company with the acquistion. “The Company will give us greater research capabilities and increased buying power in paid media,” added Chambliss. “We will have access to enhanced analytics that can elevate our brand strategy and creative messaging, and our combined public relations and social media acumen will benefit all our clients.”

In addition to its Houston headquarters operation, The Company has offices in Dallas, Denver, New York, Buenos Aires and Vietnam.

Phelps, which had been employee-owed will  retain its current branding. Agency founder Joe Phelps remains chairman and takes a seat on The Company board of directors.

The Company has been a Southwest, TX fixture in the marketing arena for more than 30 years and has work with clients such as Direct Energy, Phillips 66, Mattress Firm, Riviana Foods Inc. and Stage Stores.

Phelps has worked with well-known brands such as Whole Foods, Panasonic and Public Storage.
