Google has just released Android Things 1.0 for developers to build and maintain Internet of Things devices at scale.

The release follows previews with more than 100,000 downloads and feedback from more than 10,000 developers, according to the Google announcement.

Android Things will allow device software updates over-the-air with automatic updates.

Products already built on Android Things include smart speakers from LG and iHome, and smart displays from Lenovo, LG and JPB, showcasing Google Assistant and Google Cast. Those products are expected to be hitting store shelves between now and the end of summer.

Agencies and startups are using Android Things to prototype ideas, including Byteflies, a docking station that transmits wearable health data to the cloud, and Mirego, a network of large photo displays driven by public photo booths in downtown Montreal.

The Android Things Starter Kit, including Camera Module, a five-inch display and cables, is $199 and the Raspberry Pi 3 Starter Kit for Android Things is $90.
