Summer Blues: Top Broadcast Shows Viewing Down Vs. 2017

NBC remains on top for the summer, although most broadcast networks' viewing metrics were down from a year ago.

Through July 19, NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” has been averaging a Nielsen 11.6 million viewers and a 2.2 rating among 18-49 viewers. The network’s second-best show, “World of Dance,” is now at 6.2 million viewers and a 1.4 rating among 18-49 viewers. “American Ninja Warrior” is at 4.9 million viewers, with a 1.1 18-49 rating.

NBC's three shows are down anywhere from 11% to 19.5% for the summer versus a year ago.

ABC’s “The Bachelorette” is at 5.7 million with a 1.4 rating in 18-49 viewers, while “Celebrity Family Feud” is at 6.6 million with a 1.2 rating 18-49; and “The $100,000 Pyramid” at 5.3 million (and 1.0 rating in 18-49). “Feud” and “Pyramid” posted gains -- 4% and 22.3%, respectively. “Bachelorette” was down from 3.3% versus a year ago.

CBS’ “Big Brother” editions -- Thursday, Wednesday, and Sunday -- were mostly consistent.

The Thursday edition grabbed 5.2 million, down 13% from a year ago; Wednesday was at 5 million, off 21%; and Sunday, at 5 million, losing 17.4%. The show’s 18-49 rating is averaging 1.4. Its new summer show, “TKO: Total Knock Out,” at 3.7 million.

Fox is generally lower down the list.

New show “Gordon Ramsey’s 24 Hours to Hell” has shown the best results -- at 3.4 million viewers (a 1.0 18-49 rating). “MasterChef” at 3.6 million (1.0 18-49 rating); and “The Four: Battle for Stardom” at 2.6 million viewers (0.8 18-49 rating). “MasterChef” is even versus a year ago, among all viewers, and “The Four” is down 30%. CW’s “Penn & Teller: Fool Us” is at 1.4 million viewers, down 9%.

"Whose Line Is It Anyway?” comes in at 1.1 million, off 2%, followed by "Masters of Illusion" at 1.1 million, up 1%; and “The 100” at 978,000 viewers, 2.4% higher. These shows have averaged around a 0.2 to 0.3 rating among 18-49 viewers.

For the most recent reporting week (July 9 through July 15) for Nielsen’s live program-plus-same-day ratings metric, NBC comes in at 4.3 million viewers, followed by CBS at 3.96 million; ABC with 3.4 million; Fox at 2.12 million; Telemundo with 1.13 million; Univision at 1.1 million; and CW with 900,000.
