Key West and Puerto Rico are still recovering from the hurricanes that ravaged their areas last year and affected tourism for many months.
The Florida Keys tourism council launched a ValueCation program for travelers to the Florida Keys & Key West earlier this summer. Through Oct. 21, it includes offerings of value-added hotel and bed and breakfast stays, complimentary visits to Keys signature attractions for children and adults, and special offers on popular activities such as sportfishing, snorkel, scuba and sunset sailing trips.
Travelers can access and download ValuCation offers — available from businesses throughout the 125-mile-long island chain that includes Key Largo, Islamorada, Marathon, the Lower Keys and Key West — at fla-keys.com/ValuCation.
JetBlue, Puerto Rico’s largest airline, has unveiled its latest special livery, which is dedicated to “La Isla del Encanto.” The Airbus 320 aircraft is named “Bluericua,” blending JetBlue’s brand with the affectionate name for people of Puerto Rican descent.
The plane was designed with help from a group of JetBlue crewmembers based in San Juan, Aguadilla and Ponce, Puerto Rico.
“Bluericua is our way of celebrating Puerto Rico’s resiliency and its culture.” said Marty St. George, JetBlue’s executive vice president of commercial and planning, in a release. “We remain committed to promoting tourism to Puerto Rico, as the island is open and ready to welcome visitors, family and friends.”
The plane “will generate great attention for our destination in all markets that JetBlue serves and will serve as a reminder of the diversity and authenticity of our offering,” said Carla Campos, executive director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, in a release.
