B2B Service Provider Hit By Data Breach

Apollo, provider of a B2B prospect database with 200 million contacts, has been hit with a data breach.

The event was discovered in July, reported several days ago by Breachroom and covered by TechCrunch on Monday.

According to TechCrunch, the firm announced the following in an email to customers:

“We have confirmed that the majority of exposed information came from our publicly gathered prospect database, which could include name, email address, company names, and other business contact information,” said the email to customers. Some client-imported data was also accessed without authorization.”

It’s not yet clear whether the firm could face penalties under GDPR.

The California-based company has notified state authorities about the breach, according to TechCrunch.

According to its website, Apollo is a startup that has raised $10 million to date with participation from Y Combinator, Social + Venture Capital, and Nexus Ventures.

The company links B2B salespeople with prospects and updates its database, containing names from 10 million companies, using automation and human verification

Apollo offers analytics and custom dashboards, and says it guarantees refunds for bounced emails.

Clients include such firms as KickFurther, Photofly, 42 Coder and Venture Development.
