Salesforce To Acquire Rebel, Email API Provider

Salesforce has signed a deal to acquire Rebel, provider of an email API and other services, in a move that will enhance its email capability, Rebel announced on its web site. Terms were not disclosed.

The venture-backed Rebel serves such clients as Dollar Shave Club, L’Oreal and HelloFresh. It claims that it enables brands to turn emails into an extension of their websites or apps.

The message says Rebel will enhance the Salesforce Marketing Cloud, and adds that the firm seeks to enable marketers and developers to create "beautiful, seamless, interactive email experiences."

Rebel founder Joe Teslow will join Salesforce. Rebel now has almost 20 employees.

Earlier this year, Rebel launched a service called Rebel Lite API, a stand-alone API that allows developers to build complicated emails using JSON.

Rebel also enhanced its Rebel Shop tool for enterprise clients, providing one-click checkout in email.

In its most recent round of funding, the company was backed by such investors as Courtside VC, Sinai VC; Wisdom VC; and two individuals -- Carsten Thoma, founder of Hybris) and Clark Valberg.
