Amazon Employee Fired For Sharing Email Addresses

Amazon has revealed that an employee shared customer email addresses with a third-party seller on its platform, and has fired the person, The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday evening. 

The retailer also terminated the third-party seller, and has notified customers and law enforcement. No other customer information was exposed, the company said.

In addition, the company says it is putting additional protections into place while investigating the incident. .

The extent of the Amazon email address leak is not known, but the incident is one in a long line of data breaches suffered by tech giants that could draw the attention of the U.S. Congress and EU regulators. 

Engadget notes that in the previous story, The Wall Street Journal reported that sellers have paid Amazon employees up to $2,000 for email addresses.
