National Geographic Launching Antarctica VR Experience

National Geographic is introducing a new virtual reality experience through Antarctica.

The National Geographic Explore VR experience will be available on the Oculus Quest from Facebook this spring.

National Geographic partnered with Oculus and Force Field to create the VR experience, which intends to provide virtual explorers with a mission to find a lost penguin colony in the frozen wilderness.

“National Geographic continues to experiment in the immersive storytelling space,” stated Jenna Pirog, senior director of immersive experiences at National Geographic. “This latest partnership with Oculus and Force Field is in line with our mission to entertain with a purpose. We are using the latest visual technology to spark curiosity about our world and enable people to better understand it.”

By using Oculus Touch, consumers will be able to set up camp, build a wind barricade and close their survival tents, all using their hands, according to National Geographic.
