WPP’s Wunderman Thompson has appointed Ewen Sturgeon CEO of Europe and South Africa, effective May 7. He will be based in London and will report to Global CEO Mel Edwards.

In this role Sturgeon is tasked with growing the network’s business and operations across the European and South African regions, overseeing 6,500 employees across 76 offices.

Previously, Sturgeon was chief operating officer of Publicis.Sapient EMEA where he helped lead the integration of DigitasLBi, SapientRazorfish and Sapient consulting assets across the region. Earlier he was CEO of DigitasLBi International.

Edwards commented that Sturgeon’s “experience of bringing together pioneering businesses to create something new and unique is why he is perfect to lead our European region.”

WPP merged Wunderman with J. Walter Thompson late last year.
