Reuters To Provide News Content For Amazon's Alexa

Devices equipped with Amazon's voice-assistant Alexa will now have Reuters’ news content to help answer questions from users.

Alexa powers more than 150 different products, from smart-home devices to Echo speakers, with news briefs and long-form news updates.

Reuters will provide more than 45,000 stories each month for Alexa.

Coverage will be produced by Reuters’ 2,500 journalists in over 200 locations. It will include a variety of topics like breaking news, politics, business, sports and entertainment.

Michael Friedenberg, president of Reuters, noted the partnership also “leverages [Reuters’] metadata and best-in-class API that make us an ideal partner for technology companies and voice services.”

Reuters and Amazon collaborated in 2017: Reuters TV’s news show "Reuters Now" became available as a “Flash Briefing” news experience on Amazon’s Echo Show device in the U.S., delivering a video segment of the top news stories of the day.

Amazon has partnerships with a number of publishers, from Bloomberg to the Skimm. Recently, The Atlantic and Entertainment Weekly expanded their partnerships with Alexa.
