DMARC Use On The Rise, But Domains Are Still Unprotected: Report

Valimail reports a fivefold increase in the number of domains with DMARC records worldwide. But less than 17% of those records are at the enforcement level, the company found in its Summer 2019 Internet Fraud Landscape Report.

The company identified 850,000 domains worldwide that now have DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting and Conformance) records.

DMARC is now considered the internet security standard.

In the U.S., fewer than half of large U.S. tech companies are at the enforcement level. Less than a tenth of enterprise companies are protected from impersonation in most industry categories.

However, the U.S. is now at a 93% enforcement level -- up from 91% in the last Valimail report.

“The identity crisis of email has never been more apparent,” said Alexander García-Tobar, CEO and co-founder of Valimail. “Phishing is implicated in more than 90% of all cyberattacks, and the vast majority of phishing emails leverage impersonation.”
