Walmart plans to start grocery deliveries in robotic
vehicles.
The autonomous grocery delivery trial is planned for customers in Houston using Nuro self-driving vehicles.
The service will use Nuro’s R2, which carries only products
with no onboard driver or passengers, and autonomous Toyota Priuses powered by Nuro’s self-driving software.
“This technology is a natural extension of our Grocery Pickup and
Delivery service and our goal of making every day a little easier for customers,” stated Tom Ward, senior vice president, digital operations at Walmart U.S., in a blog post.
The initial
trial is set to involve customers who opt-in to the service with plans to expand to the general public next year.
