Mercedes-Benz, Bosch Launch Driverless Ride-Hailing Service

Bosch and Mercedes-Benz are starting a joint pilot project for an app-based ride-hailing service using automated vehicles.

The project is using Mercedes-Benz S-Class vehicles for a select group of users in San Jose.

The self-driving cars, monitored by a safety driver, are scheduled to shuttle between West San Jose and downtown.

The app from Daimler Mobility AG will be used to book a trip from a defined pickup point to a destination.

“If automated driving is to become everyday reality, the technology has to work reliably and safely,” stated Michael Fausten, head of engineering for urban automated driving at Robert Bosch GmbH.  “This is where we need tests such as our pilot project in San José.”

Mercedes and Bosch have been working together on automated driving for more than two years.
