How Not To Forget: Google Breaks Super Bowl Spot You'll Definitely Remember

Google effectively became a TV advertiser ten years ago with its first spot in the Super Bowl, and it will be back in the Big Game with another tear-jerking spot promoting the distinctly human benefits of its AI-powered Google Assistant, which in 60 seconds helps a widower remember how to keep his love for his deceased wife alive.

In a series of interrogative requests, Google Assistant helps an unnamed 85-year-old grandfather remember his wife Loretta through a series of archived photos and reminiscences, narrated by his own voice, and laughter.

“The ad reflects our goal to build products that help people in their daily lives, in both big and small ways,” Google CMO Lorraine Twohill writes in a blog post unveiling the spot this morning.

Like Google’s original “Parisian Love” Super Bowl spot 10 years ago, the new ad is a “simple” love story, Twohill says, “told through the lens of our products.”

Here's what I just posted on AdScam... I must say, because of my recent loss of Maureen, I was bowled over by the spot Google will be airing during the upcoming Super Bowl. Titled “Loretta,” it literally brought tears to my eyes with its wonderfully sympathetic and tender evocation of the recent loss of someone you have loved for many years and whose memory is now the most treasured part of your life. The spot is beautifully done, and co-incidentally a wonderful demonstration of Google’s AI-powered smart speaker search capabilities. Best of all, it was done in-house by Google Creative Lab. No BDA’s or BDHC’s were involved. Sincerest congratulations, Guys.
