Internet Speeds Drop In New York, Austin

Internet speeds are slowing to some degree in 88 cities, according to a new analysis by Broadbandnow.

Of 200 cities analyzed, 44% experienced some degree of network degradation over the past week compared to the 10 weeks prior.

Of the cities, 27 experienced dips of 20% below range or greater.

Internet speeds in New York City, hit hard by COVID-19, fell out of range by 24%.

Austin, Texas, Winston Salem, North Carolina, and Oxnard, California, experienced significant degradation, falling out of the 10-week range by more than 40%.

“The vast majority of them are still well within speeds that can support crucial remote work and learning tasks,” states the report.
