Robot Dog 'Spot' Screens COVID-19 Patients At Boston Hospital

Spot, the robot dog from Boston Dynamics, is aiding healthcare workers by reducing exposure at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.

The four-legged robot is being used as a telemedicine platform, so healthcare workers can remotely triage patients.

The robot has helped the hospital nursing staff to minimize time exposed to contagious patients, according to the company.

Boston Dynamics uses an iPad and a two-way radio mounted on a robot’s back.

“Healthcare providers then can video conference with patients as they remotely direct the mobile robot through lines of sick individuals in the tents,” states a blog post by Boston Dynamics. “Doctors are able to speak with patients from afar, possibly even from their own homes. For every intake shift completed by a teleoperated robot shift, at least one healthcare provider can reduce their interaction with the disease.”
