NBCU, Charter Strike Ongoing Carriage Deal For Peacock

NBCUniversal has inked its second major traditional pay TV service deal with Charter Communications’ Spectrum cable TV service for its streaming service Peacock.

The deal is part of an overall multi-year renewal pact with Charter to carry NBCU live and linear TV networks and its TV stations.

In April 2020, NBCUniversal secured carriage for Peacock on sister company Comcast Cable’s Xfinity Flex and X1 services -- the largest U.S. cable TV operator. Peacock also has a deal with Cox Communications.

Peacock Premium -- the limited advertising VOD Peacock option -- will be available as a free trial to Spectrum’s broadband and video subscribers. Reports suggest the free trial could be up to a year. Peacock Premium costs $4.99 a month.

In the future, Charter also intends to distribute the Peacock app on its cable TV-based Spectrum Guide platform.

NBC properties in the Charter deal include NBC Television Network, Telemundo, Bravo, CNBC, E!, MSNBC, The Olympic Channel, Oxygen, Syfy, USA Network, Universal Kids, Universo, The Golf Channel, CNBC World, New England Cable News (NECN) and NBC Sports Network, as well as five of NBC’s Regional Sports Networks: NBC Sports Bay Area, NBC Sports Washington, NBC Sports Northwest, NBC Sports Boston and NBC Sports Chicago.
