Carat Taps Essence's Chapman For U.K. CEO Role

Dentsu’s Carat has appointed Clare Chapman as its U.K. CEO, effective in early 2022. She joins from WPP’s Essence and replaces Jo Sutherland, who left last year.

Chapman has over two decades of experience in media, spanning leadership roles in planning, activation and client services. At Essence she was executive vice president and head of media for the agency’s Europe, Middle East and Africa region, working with clients like BT, L’Oréal, Zoopla and Sainsbury’s.

Prior to Essence, Chapman served as Managing Partner and Head of Planning at WPP’s Maxus and spent more than seven years in account leadership roles as client director for Havas UK and as group account director for MPG.

In her new role, Chapman will report to Hamish Nicklin, CEO of Media, Dentsu.

Chapman’s appointment comes just days after word that Dentsu’s CEO for the UK and Ireland — Euan Jarvie — is departing to take the role of CEO at data analytics and market research firm IRI. Earlier Jarvie spent over 17 years at GroupM’s MediaCom, including a stint as Chief Operating Officer in New York.
