Dutch ISP Freedom Internet Launches Data Center, Is Moving Email Customers To It, Report Says

Freedom Internet, a Netherlands-based ISP, has launched a  data center, Freedom Towers, with its partner Soverin, and has started migrating its email customers to it, according to a report in Telecompaper.

Freedom Internet had been using the German cloud-based  email server Hetzner, but claims that customers had complained of problems due to the high volume at that firm. Hetzner had not responded at deadline to an email seeking comment.

But Hetzner appears to have a new data competitor in Freedom Internet, at least in Europe.

Last Novmber, Hetzner launched servers in Ashburn, Virgina, its first location outside of Europe. It also has facilities in Nuremberg and Falkenstein in Germany, and Helsinki.

Founded in 1997, Hetzner Online has more than a hundred thousand servers, making it one of the largest web hosting and data center providers in Europe, it says. The firm boasts of “low latency.”

However, Telecompapeer writes that, due to the good relationship with Freedom, Soverin “decided to host its own hardware in Freedom's data centre. This includes SuperMicro systems with dual 10G connections and uplink.”

Meanwhile, Freedom Internet was rated “Best in Test” by the Dutch consumer organization Consumentenbond in a comparison of multi-play providers for Q1 2021, Telecompaper reported in an earlier article.
