Twilio, a customer engagement platform and parent of the SendGrid
email service, has moved into the Canadian market.
The company has hired several dozen employees in six months and is continuing to add staff.
Dino Marasco has been named vice
president and general manager of Twilio Canada, and will lead the expansion.
Canada is home to large firms and a flourishing startup landscape. Its university system has created a
diverse pool of engineering talent.
“The market opportunity in Canada is tremendous,” Marasco says. “Every major city in this country is brimming with entrepreneurship,
innovation and engineering talent.”
Some of the firm’s earliest customers are from Canada, including Shopify and Flair Airlines.
“A direct line of communication
with customers is mission-critical in the travel industry, where things can change in an instant,” says Garth Lund, Chief Commercial Officer at Flair Airlines. “Twilio enables us to
maintain that close connection with our passengers, ultimately improving the customer experience.”
Twilio’s customer engagement platform delivered 1.3 trillion emails and 127
billion messages between businesses and customers last year.
The company is now seeking growth in the public sector, healthcare and life sciences, retail and financial services
industries.
