Morgan Stanley Takes Over Times Square For Diversity Effort

Morgan Stanley is taking over Times Square today for a diversity-themed activation which shows a new conceptual spacesuit for women.

The suit is much needed, according to the financial services company. In 2019, the first all-female spacewalk was rescheduled because there weren’t enough spacesuits available to fit smaller astronauts.

Via a new collaboration with Courageous (the brand studio of CNN), Morgan Stanley is bringing the issue of inclusive spacesuit design to the forefront. It’s part of the company’s commitment to fostering a more inclusive and representative society, including through its marketing campaigns.

Morgan Stanley’s “Creating Space” activation will take visitors through the history of spacesuit design, with a dramatic space displaying historic replica spacesuits.

The activation will also provide an opportunity for visitors to have their photos taken via AR technology as astronauts, and beamed onto the external signage of the company’s Times Square headquarters.

Visitors will then walk through a galaxy room with an LED wall projecting high-res images from the James Webb Space Telescope; with mirrored walls, floor and ceiling.

The new spacesuit was conceptualized with a team of space experts (including Vinita Marwaha Madill, Mission Control Space Services and Founder, Rocket Women), historians and engineers and inspired by the current work being undertaken through public and private partnership to put the first woman on the moon.

With the space industry predicted to be a $1 trillion economy by 2040, it’s time to offer access for all, says Alice Milligan, chief marketing officer at Morgan Stanley.

The immersive installation highlights the company’s vision for a more inclusive future. It follows collaborations with fashion designer Rebecca Minkoff to redesign the traditional banker bag to appeal to a broader audience and reflect the current face of Wall Street, and a partnership with tennis pro Leylah Fernandez that highlighted the value of seeing people from all backgrounds succeed.
