Grumpy Auto Repair Guy With Shoulder Pain: Therabody Moves 'Real People'

Star athletes -- highlighted in previous campaigns -- aren’t the only ones who use Therabody products. So the maker of the Theragun massage therapy device is now also highlighting stories from “real people” in a series of videos titled “What Moves You.”

First up, launching April 14, is Dann Holm, an auto repair shop owner from Eureka, Montana, who shows how his Theragun helps him to avoid being “grumpy” and stay limber and strong enough to spend all day working on car parts stationed above his head.

With creative done in-house and media placements from PMG, the spot comes in a two-minute version hosted by Therabody on the web and YouTube , and :in 10 to :30 versions for connected TV and paid social.

“Dr. J [Therabody founder Jason Wersland] gets so many letters, DMs, and people walking up to him in the street with amazing stories of how Therabody has impacted their lives,” Therabody chief marketing officer John Solomon tells Marketing Daily. “We wanted to create a platform to get these stories out.”

Another five videos are planned for the rest of 2023, starting in June with the story of Victoria Arlen, a paralympic gold medalist, ESPN presenter, model and actress, who spent four years in a “locked-in” coma and used Therabody products as part of her rehabilitation in relearning how to speak, eat and walk.

Other featured “real people” this year include the Koreatown Run Club, a group of amateur runners preparing for a 340-mile foot relay race from Los Angeles to Las Vegas; and Jackson Gutierrez, who uses Therabody products as part of his recovery from a 2021 car accident that left him as a double amputee with burns over 20% of his body

Solomon says the featured people were chosen from a wide variety of sources, including online reviews, interviews, social media comments, direct messages, letters, emails, and feedback received by its customer experience and retail employees.

In the past, Therabody’s videos have featured star athletes like NBA star James Harden, Paralympic swimmer Jessica Long and skateboarder Felipe Gustavo.
