Shopify Leans Into AI With New Suite Of Offerings

Shopify has released its Summer ’23 Edition, containing a suite of AI-powered features.

Among them is an email capability through which users drive commerce with AI-generated subject lines, body copy and send times.

In addition, Shopify is fielding an AI-enabled commerce assistant called Sidekick that will soon be available as the centerpiece of Shopify Magic, Shopify’s suite of AI-enabled features.

According to Shopify, merchants can task Sidekick with assignments like these:

  • Set up a discount for my holiday sale.
  • Help redesign my store to feel more like summer.
  • What are my best-selling products?
  • Walk me through a tutorial on preparing an email campaign.

Shopify Magic is also being enhanced with these news features:

  • FAQ and response recommendations personalized for a merchant’s store.
  • Instantly generated blog posts for any holiday, business milestone, or campaign idea, with the ability to customize tone of voice and quickly translate content into different languages.

Shopify is also launching Shopify Credit, a business credit card designed for use by Shopify merchants, created in partnership with Stripe.

Accepted wherever Visa is, Shopify Credit rewards users with up to 3% cashback on eligible purchases.

In addition, Shopify Checkout has been enhanced with  17 new APIs. Among other things, merchants can include delivery dates, pickup points and suggested addresses.

Another new offering, Shopify Collective is a way to increase B2B sales. Merchants can source new products from on Shopify and they will be shipped ship directly to the merchant’s customers.

“I can't actually think of any corner of the internet that will benefit more from AI than the pursuit of people building and growing their own businesses,” says Tobi Lütke, founder and chief executive officer of Shopify.

Lütke adds, “I've been part of the technology industry since the mid-nineties. I have never seen anything like AI. This will be an unbelievable boon to entrepreneurship.”
