CW Appoints Known As Media AOR

Independent media agency Known has been named media AOR for the CW Network, part of Nexstar Media Group.

The appointment came without a formal review although the agency essentially auditioned for the role after piloting several campaigns on a project basis earlier this year.

The timing is aligned to the CW’s new slate of programming which includes an increasing amount of sports including ACC football and basketball, Inside The NFL, LIV Golf and more.

The CW spent an estimated $30 on measured media last year, according to agency research firm COMvergence. About $24 million was earmarked for digital channels.

Known has corralled a number of entertainment clients in the last couple of years including AMC Networks, TelevisaUnivision and streaming services Disney+, Max, Discovery+ and others.

Earlier this year the agency appointed Kasha Cacy chief media officer. Previously, Cacy was the U.S. CEO of Interpublic media agency UM.

Known was formed about three years ago when marketing and data strategy firm Schireson Associates acquired independent creative agency Stun Creative and brand strategy firm Blackbird. The companies were combined to form Known. The firm is led by former Viacom executive Kern Schireson, who is Chairman and CEO of the company.
