Disney+ has introduced an ad-supported
subscription plan, and has also added a Premium ad-free tier, in the U.K.
The Standard with Ads plan, priced at £4.99 per month, offers access to all of Disney’s streamed content
and two concurrent streams (though no downloading), with just four minutes of ads per hour in TV shows, according to Disney.
With movies, ads will be shown only before a film starts, Disney+
EMEA General Manager Luke Bradley Jones said during an event introducing the plans.
In addition, ads will not be run in the streamer’s Junior Mode or in any pre-school content or content
rated as being for younger viewers, Disney executives said.
Previously, Disney+ UK had only one plan, which was ad-free and priced at £7.99 per month. That came with 4K HDR and Dolby Atmos
sound.
Now, there is a standard ad-free plan that is also priced at £7.99 per month, but with lower-quality HD 1080p video. To get 4K UHD and HDR video and audio up to Dolby Atmos, consumers
have to trade up to a new premium ad-free plan, at £10.99 per month. Both ad-free plans allow downloads. The standard one allows two concurrent streams, while the premium one allows for up
to 10 concurrent streams.
