Visit Dublin (Ohio) is inviting residents of another Dublin (Ireland) to visit in March in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. 

Any Irish Dubliner who makes the 3,566-mile (or 5,738-km) trek to their American counterpart and lands between March 8 and 18 will be rewarded with free pints of beer and plenty of “Visit Dublin” swag from the visitors center to take back home. 

The tourism campaign, from Lexington, Kentucky-based Cornett, originally broke last August, and included a recent paid social campaign on the Meta platform in Dublin, Ireland that focused on adults 25-44  interested in international travel, to drive qualified traffic to the “Other Dublin” landing page. 

After two weeks,  the effort resulted in more than 1,986 visitors to the landing page, which represented 68% of overall site traffic and 61% of the clicks to the Aer Lingus page for users to book a trip. 

During this period, the paid social campaign delivered 192% more impressions and a 2x higher CTR than originally estimated -– largely due to optimization and a warm reception from Dubliners. 

As of Feb. 29, Visit Dublin had received two emails from parties who have already booked their flights to explore the city and were looking forward to those free pints.

The effort also includes sitcom-inspired “You’re in Luck'' tourism ads (complete with catchy theme song) created by ad agency Cornett, cheeky OOH billboards in downtown Dublin, Ireland, along with location-targeted social ads. 

“Our name sometimes causes confusion,” said Sara Blatnik, Visit Dublin marketing director, in a release. “So we think this is a good opportunity to have fun with the mixup and show off our Midwestern hospitality.”  

With the new Aer Lingus route that flies from Dublin, Ireland to Cleveland, Ohio directly, Visit Dublin hopes this might be just the incentive needed to foster some cross-cultural connection. 

Newly arrived Dubliners can see the St. Patrick’s Day Parade on the 9th, sample a variety of drinks on the Celtic Cocktail Trail, or join the St. Paddy’s Day pub crawl on the 16th. Plus, if they’re feeling a little homesick, they can pop by bars like the Dublin Village Tavern or Fado Pub & Kitchen.
