AT&T Partners With Trio Of WNBA Stars Ahead Of All-Star Game

Ahead of the upcoming WNBA All-Star Game in Phoenix, Arizona on July 20, AT&T is partnering with three of the league’s biggest stars: Las Vegas Aces power forward A’ja Wilson; New York Liberty point guard Sabrina Ionescu; and Chicago Sky center Kamilla Cardoso.

Wilson and Ionescu will star in a new mentorship-focused content marketing series from AT&T, as well as a promotional contest. Cardoso, meanwhile, joins AT&T’s roster for its “She’s Connected” series designed to celebrate women entrepreneurs.

“AT&T has been a steadfast supporter of women's sports for many years and a sponsor of the WNBA for the last six seasons,” Sabina Ahmed, assistant vice president of sponsorships and experiential at AT&T, said in a release.

In a statement, Ionescu noted that the company’s commitment to sports aligned with the values of her S120 Foundation, which is dedicated to providing youth of all backgrounds and skill levels with equitable access to sports.

As part of the campaign, AT&T is introducing a “Beyond the Bleachers” contest, calling on fans to submit a 60-second video explaining why they’re the ultimate WNBA fan for a chance to win a mentorship meeting with Wilson or Ionescu. The grand prize winner and a guest will be flown out to either New York or Las Vegas to meet one of the stars at their homecourt later this year for a fan experience promising “hoops, drills and more.”

The campaign will also include event marketing and sponsorship components during WNBA All-Star Weekend on Friday, July 19, and Saturday, July 20, in line with the types of panel discussions, immersive fan experiences, and mentorship programs which are part of its sponsorship of the league throughout the season.

On July 19 the brand will co-host a basketball clinic alongside the WNBA, as well as a panel discussion led by unspecified  prominent women voices (presumably in the field of sports), WNBA talent, and AT&T executives. The discussion will focus on the topics of the positive values gained from participating in sports, and the challenges girls and women face – in sports and more broadly.

“AT&T at WNBA Live” on July 19-20 will focus on the different sides of WNBA players, on and off the court, with activations including player meet-and-greets, an immersive “Splash Court Challenge” multiplayer basketball game with Wilson and Ionescu, and interactive fan experiences connecting them with their favorite WNBA stars.
