Tombras Acquires Burns Group To Strengthen CPG Roster

Tombras has acquired Burns Group, a New York-based ad agency.

Financial details were not disclosed.

The deal ups Tombras' reach with top CPG clients, such as Ricola, the Swiss cough drop. Tombras takes over as creative AOR.

Others on the Burns Group's roster include Labatt, DiSaronno, Chapstick, Centrum and Scotties.

The move follows Tombras' acquisition of Niña, the Buenos Aires shop, earlier this year. Tombras is a 500+ employee, full-service agency with a strong digital focus.

Burns' 10-person staff will join Tombras New York. Founder Michael Burns remains as a strategic advisor, as does co-founder James Wilday.

Burns is a former CEO of Saatchi & Saatchi New York and vice chairman of Saatchi & Saatchi Worldwide. He founded Burns Group in 2006. During his tenure, the agency worked with Pfizer, Post cereal, Gorton's of Gloucester and General Mills.

Burns said: "For 18 years, we built an integrated agency focused on strategy and creativity, devoid of layers and hierarchy. Joining Tombras is the perfect marriage of capabilities that combines our elite brand building strategy with Tombras’ modern offering and tech stack that connects data and creativity."

"We could have sold to a number of takers, but we wanted to join a like-minded agency — independence is important to us. Tombras has kept its indie spirit alive for the past 78 years, while growing into a world-class agency."
