PPK's 'Cats Aren't Trophies' Protects Bobcats, Mountain Lions

Colorado ballot initiative Prop 127 wants to ban the recreational trophy hunting of native wild cats, including bobcats, mountain lions and lynx.

Each year, animals are killed as part of a “recreational wildlife opportunity.” Between November 2023 and March 2024, over 500 animals were hunted and killed for their heads or pelts.

The vote is Nov. 5.

PPK, the pro bono agency of Big Cats Rescue, created PSA posters, radio spots and a social-first video, in support of the Cats Aren't Trophies campaign, to bring home the message.

The posters and video feature a mounted female mountain lion’s head, with a tear running down her face. Nearly half of the mountain lions killed are females, leaving behind orphaned cubs with little chance of survival.

“Say Yes To Colorado Prop 127!” urges Colorado voters to protect Colorado’s wildlife and preserve the ecosystem’s natural balance.

Michael Schillig, creative director/writer at PPK, told Agency Daily: “We felt a responsibility to communicate this reality in a deeply emotional way that viewers couldn’t help but notice and feel. So we put ourselves in the mindset of the mother mountain lion and imagined everything from her perspective. It resulted in a multimedia campaign centered on the striking image of a mother mountain lion’s mounted head with a single teardrop, as we convey in copy the painful legacy of her loss and the lives impacted in her absence."
