Ford, Detroit Lions Extend Partnership

Ford Motor Co. and the Detroit Lions are extending the stadium naming rights agreement through the 2036 season.

Ford Field has been the home of the Lions since 2002, making it the second longest tenured naming rights partnership in the NFL. The  agreement ensures the name of the building will continue as will the investment from both organizations in downtown Detroit.

The Detroit Lions posted a video on social media announcing the extension featuring Lions Coach Dan Campbell, Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery, Ford President and CEO Jim Farley, iconic Lions player Barry Sanders and musicians Big Sean and Kid Rock. It has been liked almost 10,000 times.

Ford and the Lions are two iconic organizations deeply rooted in Detroit, Farley says.

“Ever since Bill Ford spearheaded bringing Ford Field downtown, this stadium has helped drive Detroit’s comeback and hosted some of the biggest events in sports and entertainment,” Farley says in a release.

Since opening its doors in 2002, Ford Field has hosted more than 30 million visitors.

Super Bowl XL in 2006, the NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four in 2009, and the NCAA Frozen Four in 2010 helped solidify the venue’s importance to the region. Ford Field has already been awarded the 2027 NCAA Men’s Final Four and is in the running for other national and international events.
