The NFL Brings Its 'Top 100' To X

Building off of its designated portal for National Football League (NFL) content, X has announced the launch of “NFL Top 100,” a short-film series aligning with the social media platform’s evolving “video-first” model.

"Produced by NFL Films, 'NFL Top 100' will feature three- to-five-minute episodes highlighting the league's top 100 players as voted on exclusively by current NFL players," X explains.

Each week, ten players will be ranked over the course of ten weeks, with two new players being revealed every weekday. The series will lead up to the start of the 2025 NFL season, and the top 10 players overall will be announced on Sunday, September 1 live on NFL Network.

According to X, this is the 15th consecutive year that NFL players have voted to determine the top 100.

The in-app film series -- available exclusively on X -- will feature a blend of footage from the field and NFL Films’ vault, as well as highlights, soundbites, and commentary from “fellow stars across the league.”

With some "X Originals" failing to materialize or succeed -- including programs with Paris Hilton, Tulsi Gabbard and Don Lemon -- sports content has become the backbone of X's effort to reinvent the platform as a short-form video hub.

X says sports is the most popular conversation topic on the platform, with the NFL becoming the biggest hit with regard to in-app engagement. Accounts affiliated with the league have almost 50 million followers on X, and the 2025 NFL Draft attracted 1 million authors, generating 6 million posts.

This is why X launched a portal within the app dedicated solely to the NFL last year allowing users to easily find scores, game schedules, current standing, and team and player stats on the app.

At the time, 56% of users on X were NFL fans, while about 40% of all posts about sports were about the league.

In 2024, there were about 16 billion video views related to the NFL and the Super Bowl alone garnered 19.2 million posts and 1.1 billion video views.

The “NFL Top 100” will become X's 18th original series, adding to the 300-plus episodes launched across the U.S., Japan, Middle East, and North Africa regions.

Episodes will begin on June 30 and run through August 29.
