Taiwan-based computer hardware and electronics
company Acer is teaming up with one of the leading college athletics programs to boost its marketing in the U.S.
Acer entered into a multiyear marketing partnership with Stanford University,
the company announced last week. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
According to a release announcing the news, the “strategic alliance” encompassed sponsorship status,
mentorship programs, philanthropic events, and campaigns designed to“highlight the intersection of sports, education, technology, and leadership development.”
In a statement,
Acer America Vice President, Marketing Richard Black said that Stanford Athletics’ values aligns with the brand’s “core mission to empower future generations,” and that the
partnership would include working with Stanford Athletics to “promote sustainability and help young people develop their confidence and leadership skills."

The partnership will debut
this fall, including one such event designed to promote the leadership abilities of young athletes—the “Building Your Leadership Journey" youth camp, in collaboration with the Stanford
Women’s Golf team—as well as Acer’s sponsorship of Stanford Football’s Sept. 27 matchup against rival San Jose State.
Such sponsorships are clearly where the majority
of the marketing potential lies for Acer, as the Stanford Cardinal football program attempts to rebound from a 3-9 record last season.
