TikTok Boosts Sub Rev Share For NA Creators

Following subscription platforms like Patreon and Substack, TikTok is now offering North American creators the option to share exclusive content to their most devoted fans and earn up to 90% of their subscription revenue and retain loyal followers.

According to an Instagram post on the “TikTok Creators” account, “fans can pay to subscribe for exclusive sub-only content,” including “behind-the-scenes, sneak peeks, personal updates and more.”

By utilizing the subscription feature, TikTok creators in the U.S. and Canada will receive 70% revenue share, plus a 20% bonus opportunity. For subscription eligibility, creators must have at least 10k followers and 100k video views in the past month.

TikTok's 90% revenue share offering is 20% higher than what creators in other markets are currently able to earn through subscriber content, while the eligibility requirements are also loftier, with creators outside of North America expected to amass a minimum of 1m video views over the past month.

The decision to further utilize its subscription model, which originally launched for Live creators in 2022, is taking place in the middle of TikTok's potential deal with the U.S. government over the start of an American-based version of the app.

Promising a 70%-90% revenue share may be the social media giant's attempt at incentivizing its 170 million active users in the U.S. as they prepare to transition to another version of the app.
