Pinterest CMO Andréa Mallard, who
joined the company in 2018 from Gap Inc. brand Athleta, is leaving.
A Pinterest spokeswoman confirmed Mallard’s exit, saying this week will be her last with the platform. No replacement
has been announced.
Mallard's tenure included steering the company through the global pandemic.
“The marketer also helped reposition Pinterest as a
positive, inspiration-led alternative to traditional social media feeds, and launched tentpole initiatives, including its yearly Pinterest Predicts trends report and flagship advertiser showcase,
Pinterest Presents,” according to Adweek. “These efforts resulted in Pinterest
sharpening its cultural relevance among Gen Z, upping advertiser appeal, and scaling to reach 600 million monthly users.”

Mallard joined Pinterest as its first CMO and later
took on responsibility for product design, communications and youth safety.
“Under CEO Bill Ready, she was closely involved in repositioning Pinterest’s product
philosophy and marketing narrative as the company swayed away from engagement-driven recommendation models,” according to Campaign. “Ready publicly rejected competing to become 'the fourth
or fifth TikTok,' and re-engineered Pinterest’s AI to push against inflammatory, negative or triggering news content down the feed and give way to wellness, self-improvement and positive
inspiration as core parts of the platform experience.”
Her time at the company included expanding Pinterest’s cultural and brand partnerships, including its arena
collaboration with WNBA champions the New York Liberty.
“Over her tenure, she helped steer Pinterest’s rise as a destination for millennials and, increasingly, Gen Z
– now the platform’s fastest-growing audience,” according to Mediaweek. That
relevance has mattered. As newer platforms like TikTok accelerated cultural churn and attention fragmentation, Pinterest managed to remain adjacent to trends without outright chasing them.”
Mallard has not publicly stated what her plans are and her LinkedIn still lists Pinterest as her employer. Her last post on that social platform was three
weeks ago when she wished her team a “restorative winter break.”
“If my team were a band, this would be our greatest hits album. (Until next year, when we drop
another,)” she wrote. “I'm profoundly grateful to everyone across MCDC (Marketing, Communications, Creative, and Design) for making 2025 our most business-impacting year yet. The
concentration of talent and tenacity on this team is truly unmatched.”
